Africa Development and Religion
African countries are known as being passionately religious yet underdeveloped. Could religion be a threat to development?
What is Religion?A particular system of faith and worship. (google)To me, religion is a relationship between God and Man.Over the years, I have realized that religion is a personal doctrine, and does not need anyone's approval, either friend, family, neighbor, or the community at large.
Religion and Development.Generally, an average man sees another who does not share the same religious doctrines with him as a lesser being, an enemy, a distraction, and a no-go area, which unquestionably has a galling effect on society. It incites various religious violence and chaos which brings loss of lives and properties due to intolerance. With African countries leading the toll on religious intolerance, it is right to say that it is not on the verge of development. We must assuredly stand out against this bigotry if we want positive change in our society.
The phrase, "don't patronize them, "they are not our religious partners" is a common language on wall street of Africa, yet they drive cars and uses gadgets made by a Hindu or a Buddhist in East Asian countries. How do we tend to develop with actions like this? We are ignorantly contributing to the development of another continent and ignoring ours.
Above all, there is a wise saying that if the whole world practices the same religion, humans will still find a way not to be at peace with one another.

DeleteI don't think religion is our problem, it is just one of the factors fueling our problems. in africa we have the mentality that if you don't have the same "school of thought" with me then we can't really get along. The way we black sees things is definitely different
ReplyDeleteA factor fuelling problem is a significant threat to development.
DeleteWell, I don't see religion as a threat to development. It's we the human beings that doesn't do the needful...
ReplyDeleteAfricans practice religion more than the European countries, yet they are greater than the Africans. Religion or no Religion, countries can develop...I come in peace
We have high rate of religious intolerance in Africa which leads to war, kidnapping, destruction of properties and loss of lives, with the aforementioned, no country can be developed.
DeleteA very tiny population exist that doesn't belief in an existence of God, hence, they don't have religion. A large proportion of the world that has religion are very developed.
ReplyDeleteHolistically, the idea of religion is to help bring caution, morality and modesty in our society and respective environment.
Africans are ignorantly passionately practicing their own religion.
When their eyes are enlightened with loads of necessary needed and very important informations, they will serve God better, in whatever religion they choose.
